Introduction and Setting the Stage (10 minutes): Opening remarks will highlight the ICT sector’s environmental footprint, the urgency of energy efficiency, and the potential of emerging technologies to accelerate climate action.
Session 1: Tracking GHG Emissions and Energy Use in ICT (35 minutes): Focused on Recommendation ITU-T L.1472, this segment outlines standardized methods for monitoring energy consumption and emissions in ICT. Insights from a pilot project assessing data collection feasibility will be shared, followed by a discussion on using standards to drive energy efficiency.
Session 2: From Ambition to Action: Launching the NDC stocktake on Digital Climate Pathways (35 minutes): ITU will present the findings of its stock take “Digital Technologies in NDCs” showcasing how good practices and standards of nations integrating technologies into climate strategies.
It will also feature business Models and Finance to Enhance Energy Efficiency in AI and Data Centres. How can policymakers and financing institutions promote key financing mechanisms, regulatory strategies, and innovative business models to enhance energy efficiency in AI and data centres in developing countries and emerging economies. Discussion based on a Policy Brief from UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre.
